The animation storm is a short meditation on what it means to retreat into yourself when the world is on fire all around you. I made it when I was beginning to actively question how I could participate in real change without losing my mind. I'm still not sure about how to do that, but I think I've made progress.
storm stars Max from Freaks' Progress. Max has already "seen some shit," and mostly wants to be left alone. The world has other ideas.
I drew this animation with a regular #2 pencil on printer paper. Then I shot it on 16mm film, which I developed myself, and dried with a hand drier in the bathroom. Years later I transferred it to a digital format, and revised it with a black and yellow design that recalls Aubrey Beardsley's work for The Yellow Book.
